Aventine Hill – Ideal place for your wedding in Rome
An extraordinary panoramic view of the Capital and the presence of numerous churches, along with perfect locations for taking photos and holding the reception, make the southernmost of Rome’s hills the ideal place to celebrate your wedding.
Aventino wedding: The churches
A true oasis of tranquillity in the heart of the city centre, the Aventine can be defined as the hill of weddings first and foremost for its splendid churches, most of which date back to medieval times. Santa Sabina, Sant’Anselmo, Santa Prisca and Sant’Alessio, thanks to their artistic and architectural beauty, all offer evocative atmospheres and are ideal for celebrating your wedding.
Let’s see in details:
CHURCH OF SANTA SABINA ALL’AVENTINO
The Church of Santa Sabina all’Aventino is one of the best known churches in the Aventine district. Built in the 5th century AD, it is one of the oldest Christian churches in Rome.
The exterior façade is simple and sober, with a portico supported by marble columns. Inside, one can admire marble columns and capitals taken from earlier Roman buildings, giving the church an evocative atmosphere. The nave is large and bright, with medieval frescoes on the ceiling and a series of windows that allow natural light to enter, particularly suggestive for chiaroscuro photographs.
The Cloister: Unique in the area is undoubtedly the Cloister of Santa Sabina, a magical place with an evocative atmosphere, perfect for taking a few shots with the bride and groom in the immediate aftermath of the ceremony.
CHURCH OF SANT’ANSELMO AVENTINO
It’s a Catholic church that is part of the Abbey of Sant’Anselmo Situated on the side of the Knights of Malta Square (also known for the famous keyhole from where you can see the dome of St. Peter’s), the church is also famous for its choir of Benedictine monks who perform during liturgical celebrations and is a particularly atmospheric place to immerse yourself in the history and tradition of Benedictine monasticism. The church is chosen by many couples who want a venue with a timeless atmosphere for their wedding in Rome.
CHURCH OF SANTI BONIFACIO E ALESSIO – AVENTINO HILL
The Church of Sant’Alessio et Bonifacio all’Aventino is a hidden gem in Rome’s Aventine district. Dating back to the 4th century AD, this church has a long history and timeless charm. Its frescoes, arches and columns create a unique and evocative atmosphere that transports the bride and groom and their guests on a journey into the past.
CHURCH OF SANTA PRISCA
It’s a beautiful church located in the heart of Rome. This ancient religious building is one of the architectural treasures of the Eternal City and has a fascinating history dating back centuries.
The Church of St Prisca also has a fascinating legend related to its foundation. It is said that the martyr Prisca was imprisoned in an underground cave located just below the building. The cave is said to have been the place where St Peter, one of Jesus’ main apostles, celebrated mass during his stay in Rome. This story has made St Prisca a place of pilgrimage for Christian believers all over the world as well as being chosen by many couples wishing to get married in a unique place rich in history.
The particular entrance (elevated above street level and slightly uphill) makes it perfect for a nice group photo at the end of the wedding.

Suggestive places to take couple’s photoshoot
But the hill is not only a privileged location for the ceremony. Its position, with one of its flanks towering over the Tiber, offers breathtaking views of Rome, ideal backdrops for photos of one’s most beautiful day. Also making the Aventine the hill of weddings are the Roseto Comunale and the Giardino degli Aranci. The former is one of the most beautiful rose gardens in the world, with an area of 10,000 square metres in springtime offering intoxicating scents and a fascinating backdrop for photographs. The second is a park immersed in greenery, shaded by trees not only of citrus fruits, from which one can immortalise one’s most precious moments in a setting that also includes one of the most beautiful views of the dome of St Peter’s Basilica.
Aventino wedding reception venue
To make one’s most beautiful day complete, however, one also needs a suitable location for the wedding reception and the Aventine would not be the hill of weddings if it did not also have this. Attached to the Basilica of Saints Boniface and Alexis, the Istituto degli Studi Romani offers an elegant and refined setting for the bride and groom to entertain their friends and relatives, and from its wonderful terrace boasts a magnificent view, which at dusk also offers the thrill of an unforgettable sunset over the eternal city.
Another wedding venue also in the Aventino district is the Residenza Lavernale located at the base of the Aventino hill overlooking Testaccio, its main feature being its large green outdoor spaces, as beautiful and well-kept as they are rare in the centre of Rome
